Tyler Perry’s Bold New Initiative to Empower Emerging Talent

Tyler Perry Studios has announced an exciting new initiative: The Dream Collective — a hands-on, immersive program designed to uplift the next wave of storytellers, with a strong focus on underrepresented voices in film.

At the heart of The Dream Collective is the creation of a short film, offering participants more than just funding — but direct access to industry experts, tailored mentorship, and real-world training. Five selected filmmakers will each receive $30,000 to bring their vision to life.

“For a long time, it’s been on my heart to create a program where I could take what I’ve learned and share it with others,” said Tyler Perry. “This is about access. Breaking into the industry is tough — I know that firsthand. This program is my dream of opening doors for the next generation.”

Joining the program as advisors are Dawn Hudson, former CEO of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and acclaimed producer Nekisa Cooper, known for her work on Pariah. Together, they will help guide participants through both the creative and business sides of filmmaking.

Applications open April 17 and close May 1, giving aspiring filmmakers a chance to step into the spotlight and take their careers to the next level.
