Sage Mayer, “A Breakout Star on The Rise!”

Please tell us who you are, what you do in the industry, and why did you choose that profession?
My name is Sage Mayer and I am an actor and writer. I have been in this business for over 6 years and love it. When I first started acting in 2017, I worked on the movie Gifted with Chris Evans and McKenna Grace, I was hired as a background actor but got hand-picked to say a line. It didn’t go well because I was there just to have a good time. I froze and from that day on I wanted to act professionally. I started taking classes and
jumped right in.

Tell us a little bit about the latest projects that you are
currently, working on?

Well, I work a lot on Indie films. I find them very rewarding creatively. I have worked on. features and short films, a streaming series, and shows for a few major networks. I have a sci-fi film coming out this year and currently working on a new dark comedy.

What is it like working on SAG/AFTRA Union Projects and how does it differ
from non-union?

Wow, that’s a great question. I love being a SAG/AFTRA actor. The union has your back.
in getting paid on time, safety on set, furthering your acting skills with workshops and
guest speakers, and much more. You feel the difference between walking onto a union
set versus a non-union one. The hours can be very long on non-union, and breaks aren’t
always consistent. Getting paid can be a hassle at times too. But not all non-union sets
are like that. I worked on some that were great. It’s important to research and know who
is casting you.

If you could give someone your age who is not SAG advice on their acting career what would it be?
Keep going. Don’t stop. Auditioning is tedious and there are a lot of no’s. But when you get that YES. The feeling is amazing, and you can’t get a yes if you quit the business. Think of auditioning as working, and it will help you through the process. Also, don’t do it for fame or money. Do it because you LOVE it. If you aren’t in the union, start looking for student films, short films and make your own content. Have fun with it.
