As Beauty in Black returns to Netflix on March 19, 2026, Julian Horton is stepping into a new level of performance, bringing heightened intensity to his role as Roy Bellarie. The rising actor continues to solidify his presence, transforming Roy into one of the series’ most unpredictable and compelling characters.
After years of auditioning for Tyler Perry productions, Horton’s breakthrough marks what he calls “a full-circle moment.” He added, “When I got the call, it felt like everything I worked for finally aligned.” His portrayal of Roy, a character driven by power, validation, and internal conflict, continues to resonate with audiences.
When asked what fuels Roy this season, Horton didn’t hesitate: “Power and validation. He wants to be taken seriously, and he’s even crazier this season.” That pursuit pushes Roy deeper into morally gray territory, blurring the lines between control and chaos.
Describing the character as “chaotic, misunderstood, and egotistical,” Horton also revealed a deeper layer beneath the surface. “He has a freedom and wild nature, but there’s something deeper driving him,” he explained. That emotional complexity is what gives Roy his edge.
Beyond the screen, Horton approaches his craft with discipline and self-trust. “I don’t beat myself up. Whatever I gave in that moment, I stand on it,” he said. He also believes Beauty in Black reflects real-life lessons, noting, “It shows people what to do and what not to do.”
With ambitions to expand into music and collaborate with visionary directors, Horton remains focused. “I want to do it all,” he said. Grounded in faith, he added, “I stay prayed up, that’s what protects me.”
