Eminem Drops Visuals for “Tobey” Featuring Big Sean and BabyTron
Eminem has once again showcased his lasting impact on the rap scene with the release of his new music video for “Tobey.” Featuring fellow Detroit natives Big Sean and BabyTron, the track has been a major hit since its release. The highly anticipated visuals, directed by Cole Bennett, capture the essence of Detroit with scenes of factory work and Eminem at his childhood home, reminiscent of The Marshall Mathers LP cover art.
The video for “Tobey” is a prelude to Eminem’s upcoming twelfth studio album, “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce),” set to drop on July 12. In the track, Eminem addresses recent comments by rap legend Melle Mel, stating that his top-five rapper status was due to his race. Eminem responds with, “So when I get dissed though by a pioneer who is one of the reasons why I am here / They tell me that I should just let the shit go and slide / Melle Mel shouldn’t get no reply, that man is a legend / Bitch, so am I.”
Originally scheduled for release on July 5, the “Tobey” video was delayed for a few days for undisclosed reasons. The song and video were officially announced during the NFL Draft in Detroit, with a chilling trailer inspired by “Unsolved Mysteries” and an obituary for Eminem’s alter ego, Slim Shady, in the Detroit Free Press.
“The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce)” will be Eminem’s 12th studio album, with “Tobey” serving as its second single. Fans eagerly await the album’s release, spurred by the horror-themed trailer that announced its arrival.
