Behind the Scenes of The Able Podcast Show: An Interview with the Creators and Co-Hosts

AO Network sat down with Davina Douthard, Olden Polynice, and Scott Ealey to discuss their groundbreaking podcast, The Able Show. Here’s what they had to say about their journey, inspiration, and future plans.

An Interview with Davina Douthard

AO Network: Thank you, Davina, for stopping by to talk about your podcast. Can you tell us about your background in the entertainment industry?

Davina Douthard: “My journey began in Inglewood, influenced by my uncle, Nathaniel Taylor, known as Rollo from *Sanford and Son*. My first audition landed me a role as a cheerleader in *Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure*. From there, I moved behind the scenes, managing the image of artists for RCA, Arista, Capitol Records, and many more. I founded Mass Appeal Magazine and Image Cartel in 1991, focusing on image consulting and personal branding. My career has always been driven by a commitment to diversity and inclusion, which led to my latest venture, The Able Show, in collaboration with Dream Magic Studios.”

AO Network: What inspired you to create The Able Show?

Davina Douthard: “Working with individuals with disabilities began in 1998 through partnerships with California Regional Centers. Despite entering an established field, we succeeded in job placements by valuing our clients’ abilities. This experience inspired me to address the lack of representation and opportunities for people with disabilities in the entertainment industry. The Able Show provides paid internships in production, giving clients the experience they need to work in studios like Paramount and Sony. The show also helps meet inclusion standards like the Academy Aperture 2025 for the Oscars.”

AO Network: Tell us more about Dream Magic Studios.

Davina Douthard: “Dream Magic Studios offers 40,000 square feet of production facilities, including sound stages and recording studios. It’s a hub for top Hollywood players like Kevin Hart and BET. Our partnership with Silverbird Group extends our reach to Africa, enhancing our distribution and production capabilities. Notably, Silverbird recently signed a $145 million deal to build West Africa’s largest educational and film studio complex.”

A Conversation with Olden Polynice

AO Network: Olden, thank you for joining us. Can you share your journey and how you got involved with The Able Show?

Olden Polynice: “Born in Haiti with a disability, I defied expectations and played 17 years in the NBA. Davina, a longtime friend who managed my image during my NBA career, introduced me to the show. I’ve always been involved in inclusive activities, such as my basketball camps for children with disabilities. The Able Show’s message that ‘we are able’ resonates with me because I overcame obstacles to achieve my dreams.”

AO Network: What is your most memorable experience as a Co-Host?

Olden Polynice: “Every moment is memorable, but seeing the growth of our interns is particularly rewarding. We started pre-production in January 2022 with limited talent, but interest grew quickly. The interns who stayed demonstrated incredible skill and dedication. Despite the long and exhausting production days, the team’s camaraderie makes it all worthwhile.”

AO Network: If you could interview anyone for the show, who would it be and why?

Olden Polynice: “I’d love to interview Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, and Billie Eilish. Chappelle is my favorite comedian, and I’d ask him tough questions. Rock and Eilish have disabilities and are incredibly talented, embodying our message that abilities, not disabilities, define us.”

Insights from Scott Ealey

AO Network: Scott, thank you for talking with us. How did you become a Co-Host on The Able Show?

Scott Ealey: “I worked with Polishing TheProfessional, which helped me find employment. Despite various jobs, I sought something fulfilling. Denise from the management team introduced me to The Able Show, and I was onboard immediately. After a personal interview, I expressed my desire to be a host. Working with Olden has been fantastic, as he brings extensive experience and keeps things fun.”

AO Network: What should viewers know about the show, and how can they become guests?

Scott Ealey: “The Able Show features diverse guests with different backgrounds and talents, focusing on abilities rather than disabilities. To become a guest, visit our website www.theableshow.com and share your story.”

AO Network: What can we look forward to in future shows?

Scott Ealey: “Exciting developments are on the horizon, with amazing guests lined up. Our executive producer, Davina Douthard, is working to match schedules for bigger and bigger guests, so stay tuned for more surprises.”
